KOME AND KLEAN A TRAIL WITH KENNESAW MOUNTAIN TRAIL CLUB

Trail Workdays are the 2nd Saturday of every month which for the remainder of this year will be 12/13.  We accept volunteers of all ages (they've been as young as 6 and as old as 86).

Youth groups require adequate adult supervision (we prefer a ratio of 2:8 adults to youth) and youth under the age of 18 require parental permission.  The appropriate registration forms are available on our web site at kennesawmountaintrailclub.org .  The web site is also the preferred place for volunteers to check for possible weather related cancellations before leaving for the park.

DID YOU KNOW?

Going Green for the Holidays

The Holiday season is here and that brings people together for festive meals, exchanging gifts, and more. What else will this time of year bring? A lot of waste. More than 30,000 tons of food waste and other recyclables. In fact, your household will create 25% more waste during the Holidays than any other time of the year.

From additional food waste and packaging to large gift boxes and wrapping paper, the additional waste accumulated across Gwinnett County during the Holiday season is staggering. However, there are three simple steps you can follow to make your household green this Holiday season: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Going Green Step 1: REDUCE

The less you purchase or bring home, the less waste you will generate. Reduce waste by:

  • Giving gifts that require little packaging, such as gift certificates, tickets, music lessons, etc.
  • Planning meals wisely and buying only the amount of food you will need.
  • Turning off or unplugging holiday lights during the day to reduce electricity needs.
  • Capturing holiday memories with your own digital camera instead of a disposable one.
  • Buying products in bulk to reduce packaging waste and save money.

Going Green Step 2: REUSE

Before purchasing something, save money and storage room by checking to make sure something you have won't work just as well. Reuse what you have by:

  • Wrapping gifts in recycled or reused wrapping paper or funny papers.
  • Giving rechargeable batteries and a battery charger with electronic gifts.
  • Buying a potted tree and planting it after the holidays.
  • Composting leftover food scraps, leaves, and grass clippings.
  • Donating unwanted presents to charity or having a yard sale.

Going Green Step 3: RECYCLE

Many things you might throw away can be used again.  Maximize your recycling by:

  • Recycling your cardboard boxes, catalogues, magazines and junk mail.
  • Showing holiday party guests where to put recyclables such as aluminum, glass, and plastic.
  • Recycling your Christmas tree with the “Bring One for the Chipper” program.
  • Checking labels to determine a gift's recyclability and if it's made from recycled materials.
  • Making a commitment to recycling year round at home and at work.

If we follow these three easy steps, together we can reduce waste and help Cobb have a safer, cleaner, healthier and more livable future!
