Bring One for the Chipper a Great Success

259 volunteers came out on January 3rd to help man 13 locations for citizens to drop off their used Christmas trees. It was cold and rainy, but that did not stop thousands of people from bringing their trees to be mulched. Free mulch was then available for the taking at any of the parks after the event.

Our volunteers worked tirelessly all day unloading trees from cars. We saved 21,930 trees
from the landfill! Each tree takes up the equivalent space of one washing machine in a landfill.

Our thanks to our volunteers and to those who made the effort to help preserve our dwindling landfill space!

Mark Your Calendars!

February 20, 2009 - Arbor Day is an excellent opportunity to take stock of the trees on your property and plan for the future. Inspect your trees. Note any broken branches or evidence of disease or insect infestation. Think about how planting new trees might improve the look of your property or provide wind or heat protection.  Take a trip to your local nursery to see what's available and to get new ideas. And, oh yes, plant a tree.

March 1, 2009 - The Great American Cleanup is coming! Get free supplies to spruce up your school, neighborhood or business. For more information go to http://kcb.cobbcountyga.gov/greatamerican.htm

Caught in the Act!

Despite the cold January rain, volunteers from South City Kitchen, Garrett Middle School and KCB Board members teamed up with Scott Tubbs of Cobb DOT and planted trees at the East West Connector and South Cobb Drive. Our thanks too, to Cobb Police Officer Sgt. Sorrow for keeping us safe on the busy roads.
